Q: I can’t get the sound to work on my computer.
A:Only select slides on each Level will actually play music selections and/or artist voices to enrich the learning experience. All slides with sound will have an "Audio" button in the lower left corner. These select pictures on each Level will play music selections and/or artist voices to help make the learning experience fun. To test the audio on your computer, enter the Van Gogh section on the CD-ROM. Now select level 3. If you hear the song “Starry, Starry Night” playing, this means your audio IS working properly. If you do not hear the audio, proceed below.

Q: I have tested the audio but still hear nothing.
A: First, check to make sure your system speakers are hooked up properly. Next confirm that the volume control on your computer is turned up. Finally, double check that you are using Internet Explorer 5.0 (or higher) web browser. This can be verified by choosing the “Help” tab from the tool bar and then selecting “About Internet Explorer.” If your do not have IE on your computer you can load it from the MTM CD-ROM at no charge.

Q: What are the computer/system requirements to MTM?
A: Any PC with Windows 95 O/S or higher and a CD-ROM. Any Macintosh computer with CD drive. Both PC and Mac MUST have the Microsoft Internet Explorer (5.0 or higher) web browser installed to run the MTM CD-ROM. To install Microsoft IE, see: “How do I load Internet Explorer onto my computer?”

Q: Do I have to have internet access to use MTM?
A: No. The MTM CD-ROM does not operate on-line (using the internet). However, it does use Microsoft Internet Explorer to run the program. Anytime you are prompted by your browser to connect to the internet, you can select the “Work Offline” feature to bypass modem connection.

Q: Do I have to use Internet Explorer to run MTM?
A: Yes. Microsoft Internet Explorer is used as a window or support housing for the MTM CD-ROM. However, you do not have to be online (connected to the internet) to use the CD. IE is designed to support the audio files that the MTM CD contain. There are other web browsers that may allow you to view the CD material, but not hear the sound recordings. For this reason, to achieve maximum results from your MTM CD-ROM, it is necessary to use Microsoft Internet Explorer. If you do not currently have Internet Explorer 5.0 (or higher), you can load a copy of it from the MTM CD-ROM. See: “How do I load Internet Explorer onto my computer?”

Q: Does Internet Explorer have to be my “default browser”?
A: No. IE does not have to be your default web browser to use the MTM CD-ROM. However, making IE your default browser will allow the auto-run program to automatically load the CD without any complications. When possible, we recommend making IE your browser but it is not required.

Q: How do I open the CD-ROM in IE if IE is not my default browser?
A: If Internet Explorer is NOT your default browser you will not be able to access the CD-ROM via the auto-run feature. To access the CD, first place it into your computer. When the auto-run program opens your current default browser (often prompting you to log onto your local dial up modem connection), you should close any programs that open. Locate and open Microsoft Internet Explorer (usually this can be done using the “Start” menu, “Programs”, and selecting Internet Explorer. Note: if prompted by your internet connection service to connect to the internet, select the “Work Offline” option and proceed. Next, click on the “File” tab and select “Open.” Click the “Browse” button and then access the down arrow in the “Look in:” section. Select the CD drive that contains “Mtm.” Now select “Mtmcdrom” (for PC users only). Click the “Open” button and then click “OK.” This should launch the MTM program and take you directly to the Licensing Agreement Page.

Q: How do I load Internet Explorer onto my computer?
A: Insert the MTM CD-ROM into your computer. Close any internet browser that may pop up automatically. On you desktop, go to “My Computer” and double click. Right click on the MTM CD (usually your D: drive) and select “Open.” Double click on the IE (Internet Explorer) folder. Select PC or Mac (based on which type of computer you are using). Locate and double click the “Ie5setup” icon and follow the directions prompted by the IE installer. Please note, all technical questions regarding Microsoft Internet Explorer should be directed to Microsoft.

Q: The MTM screen is not the correct size for my computer.
A: If you are not using IE 5.0 (or higher), some malfunctions may occur with respect to screen size. Confirm that IE is the web browser being used to open MTM and then proceed. The MTM CD-ROM will operate at maximum efficiency when the monitor size has been preset at 800 x 600. This can be achieved by clicking on the “Start” menu (for PC users) and selecting “Settings.” Choose the “Control Panel.” Find and double click on the “Dislplay” folder/icon and select the “Settings” tab. Choose the 800 x 600 screen area and click “Apply.” You will be asked to confirm this decision by clicking “Yes.” In some cases your computer may prompt you to restart the computer to accept the new screen size. When this has been completed, retry the MTM CD-ROM.
